Central London is a few minutes’ Tube ride away. Which means the world’s greatest museums – most of them free – are within easy reach.
What else? Since the 2012 Olympics, sport in the city has taken a step up. It’s easy to try everything, from football to fencing. Head to Box Hill or Epping Forest for an off-the-beaten-track cycle ride.
Last but not least, it’s a great place to shop, whether you’re looking for the latest high street fashion (Westfield or Oxford Street), vintage clothing (Brick Lane) or something a little more unusual (Camden).
