There aren’t many things that get me (or most other students) out of bed in the morning, however there is one exception…coffee. Since living in Southampton for University, I’ve found myself on a rather tedious hunt of finding my favourite location to indulge in a warm cup of caffeine-fueled goodness. Here are my top contenders…

The Artisan – Guildhall Square

This café is designed to be a ‘creative hub for Solent University students’, however it is open to the general public too. Offering a super rustic interior and a very chilled out vibe, this place is a great hangout to snap up a quick Instagram shot as well as offering delicious food and drink. They are keen supporters of ethical produce and offer fair-trade coffee at a decent price that won’t break the bank (which is great news for us students), and if you’re a student at Solent University you can also get a discount using your student card!

Nousha Lounge – East Street

I’d usually suggest steering away from chain coffee shops if you’re looking for a nice place to relax, however the Caffé Nero in the city centre has to make it on to my contenders list. The staff are lovely, the interiors are super modern and more often than not, you’ll be able to get yourself a good deal! If your phone provider is o2, you can grab yourself a free drink from Caffé Nero every Tuesday or Wednesday, or you might be able to find a voucher code online. You can also collect points and get deals if you download their app (which I highly recommend doing). The music is very chilled out too which creates a great atmosphere for getting some work done.

Mettricks – Guildhall Place

Another coffee shop pretty close to the uni which is great to visit when the sun is shining, as it offers a small seating area outside that looks over one of Southampton’s main parks. Mettricks is very modern, whilst offering some quirky touches such as giving you your table number on a wooden spoon. Nevertheless, the coffee is great and the service is always spot on. Another location that offers the perfect atmosphere for getting work done, but also a great spot for catching up with friends over a spot of brunch.

Crafty Fox – Portswood

A little out the way of the city centre, but if you’re in the Portswood area this is a great coffee shop with a contemporary feel. They serve super cool, indie brands of cold brew coffee as well as your standard cappuccino. It’s also another great location if you’re looking to snap a quick photo thanks to the edgy interior. They offer great vegetarian and vegan options if you fancy a bite to eat too!
